Porsche couldn’t have dreamt of a better start to its electrified era, as the company celebrates its 100,000th Taycan to roll off the production line yesterday. The milestone car left the Zuffenhausen assembly plant, roughly just three years after production for the fully-electric model first started in September 2019.
The 100,000th Porsche Taycan, in the guise of a Neptune Blue Turbo S, will be shipped to its lucky customer in the United Kingdom.
The UK and Ireland are one of the largest markets for the Porsche Taycan, alongside the United States and China. While official numbers for Malaysia aren’t available, it does seem that it’s enjoying a fairly successful time here, with the number of Taycans seen on the road. Last year, the Porsche Taycan also outsold the 911.
“We are very pleased to have reached this milestone in production history so quickly – despite the recent challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage and the volatile Covid situation,” says Porsche Taycan model line vice president, Kevin Giek. “With the Taycan, we have made a decidedly successful start in the electric age.”
The Porsche Taycan is available globally in three body styles – regular sedan, Cross Turismo, as well as the Sport Turismo. Up to five powertrain options are available for each of the body styles, including both rear- or all-wheel drive variants.
Here in Malaysia, Porsche’s first EV is available in sedan and Cross Turismo forms, starting at RM508,000 for the base, rear-wheel drive Taycan thanks to the government’s tax incentives for electric cars.
Porsche also currently holds the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for the fastest production electric car, with the Taycan Turbo S recently lapping the Green Hell in seven minutes and 33 seconds.
