Australian artist Nigel Sense was brought in for this unique piece.
Porsche is well known across the globe for its outstanding sports cars, but it has been making a name for itself in the art sphere too. Over the past year, we've seen a number of new art cars from the German automaker, including an unusual 911 from South Africa. This handpainted creation is super cool, but of late, most art cars from Stuttgart have been created using vinyl wraps. That appears to be the case with the Porsche Taycan Turbo art car you see below. Commissioned by Porsche in Australia, this special livery was created by contemporary artist Nigel Sense. As is fashionable these days, there's also a link to the world of the blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
This new commission forms part of Porsche's 70th-anniversary celebrations in the land Down Under, which recently gave us a special version of the 911 GT3. The electric art car will be photographed to create three unique digital works of art in the form of multimedia photographs. A collaboration with German NFT collectibles company Fanzone.io will then turn these three pieces into NFTs that will be auctioned off via SuperRare.com, a digital art marketplace. Since this is an electric car, the NFTs were minted “in a carbon-neutral way by offsetting them via the Porsche Impact program.” The proceeds from these tokens will also be used responsibly, being donated to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art.
Those who purchase these NFTs will get more than just a digital image, with Porsche adding “sounds that connect to the colors and vibrancy of the Taycan.” Porsche enlisted the services of Gene Shill to compose an original piece of music to support the NFTs. Shill is an expert at making music from engine sounds, so “all harmonic and rhythmic textures of the music” come from a single Taycan power unit sound. Porsche explains that this NFT project is meant to embody a “reflection of natural and modern Australia, linking heritage with the future.” Porsche is planning to hold “selected exhibitions” of the car through the remainder of the year.
