Has Christmas come early? The new Porsche 911 Cabrio Facelift spied dashing through the snow in Northern Europe for cold weather testing. Well, the new facelifted 992 generation Porsche may be officially revealed just before the end of the year if all goes swimmingly.

If you recognise the scenery that’s because we recently shared a story about the Dakar/Safari Porsche 911 that was also being put through its paces in the snow. Now is the turn of the Porsche 911 Cabrio Facelift which was spotted by spy photographers in the snowy terrains of Northern Europe.

Wearing almost no disguise or camouflage but finished in a dark lick of paint, we can still make out what appears to be a largely updated front end. Before thinking of a bold design call, those temporary lights flanking the vents on each side are not going to stay for very long but we could expect significant changes to the daytime running lights and turn signals instead. The gaping air intakes positioned beneath each headlight will now receive vertical slats while sensors and radar are mounted on the centre of the bumper underneath the number plate.

The rear end is not as easy to make out amongst the snow filled panels and mildly covered up lower section of the bumper. Changes to the exhaust pipe layout and a modified rear diffuser which is integrated into the bumpers seem the most prevalent updates with the engine cover outlets redesigned too.

Unconfirmed on the powertrain front is that base models will return to naturally aspirated flat-six motors. Rumours are beginning to circulate that Porsche’s 4.0-liter flat-six motor with a smaller displacement could replace the current 3.0-liter twin-turbo unit. If all goes swimmingly the 992 Porsche 911 Cabrio Facelift may break cover before the end of the year.
