Swish Swedish electric car brand Polestar has issued a recall for its Polestar 2 model after several owners suffered power failures. The recall affects almost 4600 cars across Europe, including 360 registered in the UK.
Polestar claims the problem is down to faulty inverters, the equipment responsible for delivering the energy from the battery pack to the electric motors driving the wheels. Affected cars can suffer from sudden power loss, which could be merely annoying if it happens when pulling out of your garage, and slightly more serious if you’re doing 50mph on a dark, wet, downhill B-road.
Owners of existing cars are being notified via email and will need to bring their cars to a service centre. Meanwhile, those waiting to take delivery of a new Polestar 2 – and possibly now feeling less joyful at the prospect after reading this news – are being assured that their cars will be modified before they’re given the keys.
At the same time, Polestar’s technicians will make changes to the cabin and battery pack cooling systems to fix a separate problem affecting a smaller number of cars.
The good new is the service teams will also modify the cars allowing them to accept over-the-air software updates, meaning this might be the last time most Polestar 2s have to go near a dealership for a while.
