► New electric Polestar 5 GT► Taycan and eTron GT rival
► Will be produced in China
Polestar has revealed a new picture of the Polestar 5 and announced a protype of the new car will makes its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. A heavily-disguised prototype of the 5 will go up the hill throughout the event which begins on 23rd June – and it’ll be joined by the Polestar 2 BST edition 270.
We’re up to 5?
Not exactly. Polestar currently sells two cars; the hybrid Polestar 1 and the BEV-crossover 2 – but we’ve seen a range of concepts and teaser shots to go with them. Polestar gave us our best look at the 3, and all-new aerodynamic electric SUV a few weeks ago. There’s yet to be any images of the Polestar 4.
What’s it like?
The single image released doesn’t give much away, and neither will the car shown at Goodwood – but we already have a good idea of what the Polestar 5 will look like. CAR understands the 5 will borrow heavily from the stunning Precept Concept (above) shown around two years ago. Just weeks after revealing the concept, the Geely-offshoot revealed the Precept was entering production – and it’s destined to be the 5. Read more about the concept here.
With that in mind, expect a four-door GT -grand tourer, the Precept is stretched over a larger wheelbase, but featuring all the design you’d expect form a Polestar. Chiselled and separated headlight and a full-width whisker-thin light bar at the rear should all be present, if the concept is anything to go by.
The 5 almost certainly won’t have a grille but should have SmartZone as the Precept does. Simply put, it’s where the concept houses its safety sensors and a driver assistance tech.
