Polestar has revealed an electric grand tourer with a long wheelbase and a sleek fastback silhouette that is slated to arrive in 2024.
The new model will be called the Polestar 5. Polestar already sells a Polestar 1 high-performance hybrid coupe and a Polestar 2 electric vehicle (EV) that straddles the line between hatchback and crossover. It has teased a Polestar 3 SUV that may be coming next year. So the arrival of a Polestar 5 suggests that at least one Polestar model is coming. We haven’t seen hints about it yet.
The 5 looks a bit like a cousin to the Audi E-Tron GT or Porsche Panamera. A sleek 4-door body gives way to a fastback rear, with the greenhouse set back behind a long hood. A long hood that, presumably, covers nothing but a front trunk. The Polestar 5 is a pure electric car with all the moving parts mounted under the floor.
That’s all we know for now, as the company didn’t offer any mechanical details. Instead, it says, it will produce a series of documentary-style films about the car, with “technology and performance credentials…discussed in future episodes of the series.”
For those unfamiliar with the name, Polestar started life as tuner division dedicated to producing high-performance versions of Volvo cars. It has since branched out to become an automaker all its own, though it remains a subsidiary of Geely, the company that owns Volvo.
