The Polestar 2 electric fastback has gone on sale in Australia, and deliveries of the first 180 vehicles from the high-performance electric marque are set to commence in March.
Starting from $59,900 for the basic version, the Polestar 2 is available in either a single-motor or dual-motor option with a standard-range (440-474km WLTP) or long-range battery (510-542km WLTP).
With three optional packs that add Performance (on the dual-motor option only), Plus for premium features including a panoramic roof and Pilot for safety and driver assist features, Polestar has sought to enter the market with a highly customisable EV.
And it would appear that interest has been high. With its first allocation accounted for in ore-order registrations, Polestar said it had taken at least 3,000 bookings for test drives ahead of its roadshow that is now on location at the Brisbane showgrounds.
“There is incredible interest in electric vehicles in Australia, with sales increasing by more than 190 per cent year-on-year in 2021. We’re thrilled that the Polestar 2 is now here to help meet that demand,” Polestar Australia MD Samantha Johnson said in a statement.
“With 180 vehicles on-the-ground in Australia and ready for delivery in March, the Polestar 2 will further accelerate our national shift to an electric-vehicle fleet.”
But drivers wanting a Polestar 2 as soon as possible will have to choose from a number of pre-configured options to receive their vehicle next month.

A quick look at Polestar’s website on Friday morning shows 19 vehicles available, starting from a little over $66,000 driveway for a standard single-motor variant with 170kW power output at 440km range (WLTP).
Sitting at the opt of the range priced at just over $100,000 driveway for a fully-specced long-range dual-motor option with all three packs, 300kW power output and 480km range (WLTP).
Those after the longest driving range possible can go for the single-motor version with long-range battery, which is priced around $70,000 for 170kW power output and 540km range (WLTP).
Polestar says it will honour a seven-day peace of mind guarantee from the delivery date as long as the vehicle has not driven more than 500km.
“A new vehicle is often the second-largest purchase a person will make after a home, so it’s important to not only recognise that, but to also stand behind our vehicles – and our customers – with a guarantee that provides the peace-of-mind and confidence in the direct-to-consumer model,” said Johnson.
“We see that Australians are increasingly ready to make the switch to electric vehicles, and this guarantee is designed to make that transition as easy as possible for Polestar 2 customers.”
Additional options include floor mats ($220), a luggage compartment mat for $330, charging cables for $1,200 each (yes, including the at-home charger) and roof racks for $550.
The Polestar 2 comes with a manufacturer-back five-year warranty, roadside assistance and service plan.
