Wealth can’t buy taste, something proven by hordes of modified Bentleys and Lamborhginis. However, that’s not to say that everyone with some cash to burn is blind to the great and good of motoring. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason is a well-known enthusiast with an impressive private collection of cars. In addition to a beautifully specified LaFerrari and Alfa Romeo 8C, Mr Mason also has a McLaren GTR Longtail. A Longtail that could soon be yours…
McLaren built just 106 of its legendary F1s back in the 1990s, with 28 examples created for motorsport. These GTR models saw huge success with the car taking outright victory at Le Mans in 1995. 10 examples were then developed into GTR Longtail variants with enhanced aerodynamic bodywork.
Prestige car dealer Tom Hartley currently has Nick Mason’s GTR Longtail listed for sale. Chassis 19R is one of only two prototype Longtails making it an extremely valuable addition to any car collection. Mason had this F1converted to road-legal specification by specialists Lanzante and Gordon Murray Design, however it can easily be returned to its original race specification should you desire.
Its history is well-documented with its debut event being the Suzuka 1000km. The car also comes with an extensive spare parts supply and dedicated book by Gordon Murray Design.
McLaren F1s don’t come much more prestigious than this, something reflected in its ‘Price Upon Appointment’ status.
