An official reveal is happening soon.
Our spy photographers have caught the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS out on the road, track, and now in the harsh winter weather Swedish countryside. Expected to debut in the coming months and, hopefully, an on-sale beginning this summer, the next generation 911 GT3 RS appears to be in the final development stages. More and more camouflage is being removed and, oftentimes, winter weather road tests are part of this final phase.
Based on these latest images, the GT3 RS will have different door handles compared to the GT3. We can also see that part of the front fender between the front wheel and the door is actually a part of the new and advanced aero. In short, the front aero kit expands into the door itself. Clever.
Unfortunately, Porsche has kept the covers on the front and rear bumpers and some areas of the front fender. The rear fenders also have some camo where there's typically an air intake. The big rear wing's final design is still somewhat disguised and, for what it's worth, Porsche placed black duct tape over the rear logo. Speaking of logos, Porsche has decided to give the new GT3 RS the same logo design originally used on the legendary 911 2.7 RS from 1973. Whoever in Stuttgart came up with that idea deserves a raise.
Although it has not been confirmed, we highly suspect the 992 GT3 RS will come powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six making anywhere from 540 to 580 horsepower. For comparison, the 992 GT3 generates 502 hp and 346 lb-ft of twist.
This time, however, a manual transmission won’t be available; the PDK dual-clutch gearbox will only be offered. That’s not necessarily a bad thing as the PDK promises better overall performance thanks to its split-second shift times. Still, three-pedal enthusiasts won’t be happy and Porsche knows fully well there are plenty of them out there. We wouldn’t rule out a manual at a later date if this group of customers makes their voices heard.
Pricing should be announced at the time of reveal but we estimate it’ll surpass its immediate predecessor’s $187,500 MSRP.
