KUALA LUMPUR: The new Volkswagen Tiguan has arrived in two variants of Comforline and Highline, while powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine mated to a six-speed DSG wet clutch.
The new Tiguan is currently priced on-the-road with GST without insurance at RM148,990 (Comfortline) and RM168,990 (Highline).
This also includes a five-year manufacturer’s warranty, five-year road-side assist, five colour choices of Deep Black, Atlantic Blue, Indium Grey, Pure White and Tungsten Silver as well as two upholstery options of Vienna or Rhombus.
At 1,486kg (kerb), the new Tiguan has a 60-litre fuel tank that feeds the 1,395cc engine to produce 150PS from 5,000 to 6,000rpm and 250Nm of torque from 1,500 to 3,500rpm – allowing it to sprint from 0-100kph in 8.9 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 198kph.
With a wheelbase of 2,681mm, the new four-door sport utility vehicle stands at 4,486mm-long, 1,839mm-tall and 1,664mm-wide, the new Tiguan rolls on 17-inch Montana wheels with 215/65 series tyres.
Starting with the entry-level Comfortline, the roof rails are in black while the front-end houses a pair of halogen headlights and fog lamps, while the rear employs LEDs for the tail lights and rear licence plate lights.
Although the rear boot has 615 litres of space, the cabin still remains spacious and features Titanium Silver accents.
It also comes with an electronic instrument cluster, automatic wiper and lights, leather multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, leather handbrake and gear knob, rear air vents, ‘Climatic’climate controls and foldable tables behind the front seats.
Entertainment comes from an eight-speaker sound system connected to an 8.0-inch touchscreen display radio ‘Composition Media’ with USB and iPod interface, SD card slot, AUX-in and Bluetooth connectivity.
For safety, there’s six airbags, anti-lock braking system with brake assist, electronic stability control, hill-hold control, multi-collision brake system, speed-sensitive electromechanical power steering system, active bonnet pedestrian protection and ISOFIX child-seat anchor points.
Costing RM20,000-more, the Highline now rolls on larger 18-inch Kingston wheels with 235/55 series tyres, while featuring LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, powered tail gate, park assist, reverse camera, chrome roof rails, and the impressive 12.3inch active info LCD display.
Also, there’s tri-zone climate controls, 12-way powered driver’s seat with lumbar support, cruise control, keyless-entry with push-start button and navigation for the sound system.

VPCM also announced that it will be having a nationwide dealer open house this weekend from April 7 to 9 and will also feature and highlight the Tiguan (test drives available), while offering a variety of food and activities for both children and adults.
