Broader range, extra features and higher prices for VW’s updated seven-seat mid-size SUV
Volkswagen Australia has revealed local pricing and specification details for its upgraded 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, with the price of entry to the seven-seat mid-size SUV climbing $3600 to now start from $44,590 plus on-road costs.
Due in showrooms from May, the 2022 Tiguan Allspace line-up will comprise three model grades at launch – Life, Elegance and R-Line – that replace the outgoing Comfortline and Highline trim levels, while four powertrain options continue: three turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines (110TSI, 132TSI and 162TSI) and a turbo-diesel (147TDI).
While each engine variant in the outgoing range was only available in a single grade, the new-look Tiguan Allspace range offers the more powerful 162TSI 2.0-litre petrol (162kW/350Nm) and 147TDI 2.0-litre diesel (147kW/400Nm) in both Elegance and R-Line trim.

Both have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system fitted standard.
The diesel adds $1500 in each case, while the 162TSI Elegance starts a long way upstream of the entry-level front-wheel drive 110TSI Life by starting at $56,990 plus ORCs.
Opting for the top-spec R-Line adds a further $3200 over the Elegance and pushes the asking price beyond $60K.

At the bottom end, the Life can be had with either the 110TSI 1.4-litre engine (110kW/250Nm) with six-speed DCT, or the 132TSI 2.0-litre (132kW/320Nm), the latter adding $4000 with the extra oomph and the seven-speed DCT and AWD.

Volkswagen Tiguan 162TSI R-Line
As the name suggests, the R-Line amps up the Tiguan Allspace’s sense of athleticism with cosmetic touches including an R-Line body kit, R-Line badging, higher-grade LED tail-lights and 20-inch alloy wheels.
The sporty theme is continued within the cabin too, primarily by the black headliner and Vienna leather-appointed upholstery, along with sports pedals and an R-Line steering wheel – with haptic buttons – to match the unique progressive steering system.
All of the Elegance options are available on the R-Line too.

Boot space in all variants is rated at 230 litres with all three rows of seating in place, a figure that expands to 700L when the third row is stowed.
Compared to the NWB (normal wheelbase) five-seater Volkswagen Tiguan, the Allspace measures 4700mm long (+220mm) and has a much longer rear overhang (+106mm) that allows for the third row.
When those two rearmost seats are not in use, the 700L of available space is 85L more than in the five-seater version, while dropping the second row liberates 1775L in the longer-wheelbase version (+110L).
