Porsche has unveiled the updated Macan, with stronger engines, a new look, and improved features.
All three trim lines – Macan, S, and GTS – are available at launch, with the range-topping specification sporting exclusive interior and exterior features to set it apart.
The updated Porsche Macan range can now be ordered in South Africa, with customer deliveries expected to start from January 2022.
What’s new
The Porsche Macan’s look has been sharpened through a number of cosmetic changes, with the redesigned nose being the most notable difference.
The standard models have this part finished in body-coloured paint, while the GTS specification wears gloss black highlights around its exterior to emphasize its sportier character.
At the rear, the range is treated to a redesigned diffuser – and each derivative also gets the Porsche Dynamic Light System with Sport Design exterior mirrors as standard.
The entry-level specification then sits on 19-inch alloy wheels, the S on 20-inch wheels, and the GTS on 21-inch wheels.
Additionally, customers will have a choice between seven additional rim designs that have been added to the options list – as well as a total of 14 exterior colours.
Inside, the Macan offers a “substantially enhanced interior with a modern and elegantly designed centre console”.
Tactile buttons have been replaced with touch-sensitive surfaces, a shorter gear shifter is fitted, and the analogue clock on the dashboard is now standard.
In addition, a 10.9-inch Porsche Communication Management infotainment display is included – which offers control over features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a range of online functions and services.
Every Macan now adopts the GT Sport multifunction steering wheel from the 911 range, too.
As the range-topping trim, the GTS then adds 18-way electrically-adjustable Sports seats, Race-Tex upholstery, contrast stitching, and the Carbon interior package.
“A number of leather upholstery and contrasting seam packages in Gentian Blue, Papaya, or Crayon are optionally available to add new colour highlights to the interior,” said Porsche.
Performance
The baseline Porsche Macan is powered by a newly-developed 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that puts out 195kW.
This sees it sprint to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 232km/h.
At the front of both the S and GTS specifications lies a 2.9-litre, V6, biturbo engine that generates 280kW and 324kW respectively.
The S finishes the 0-100km/h run in 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 259km/h, while the GTS boasts figures of 4.3 seconds and 272km/h.
All engines are paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and the Porsche Traction Management all-wheel-drive system.
To improve handling and driver feedback in the updated Macan, Porsche tweaked the suspension damper characteristics to suit the SUV’s set-up, and fitted the Porsche Active Suspension Management option to the S and GTS as standard.
This feature is now also available as an option for the standard Macan.
The GTS then differentiates itself once again by offering sport air suspension as standard, which lowers the body by 10mm when compared to the rest of the line-up.
