The Lanzante name is synonymous with McLaren after it took an F1 GTR to outright Le Mans victory in 1995. This racing marque has since turned its hand to offering road-legal conversions for the typically track-only P1 GTR with McLaren’s blessing. Lanzante’s latest creation pays homage to an iconic F1 GTR via a model dubbed P1 GTR-18.
The road-going McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar is an extreme machine in every sense of the phrase. Its lightweight carbon skeleton features a twin-turbocharge 3.8-litre V8 heart, something that when supplemented with an electric motor produces 903bhp. However, things were turned up to 11 with the track-only P1 GTR that numbered only 58. Lanzante’s modifications take the racer from the confines of a track and on to the road. It’s the same story with the P1 GTR-18.
In addition to the tweaks that grant a GTR a numberplate, longtail bodywork and a larger diffuser further manipulates the air to this car’s will. Those with a keen eye for detail will also notice that this aerodynamic package includes a new front splitter and more substantial side skirts to increase overall downforce.
The interior is as spartan as the day it left the factory, with naked carbon on show and nothing in the way of onboard luxuries. Lanzante has taken the liberty of adding its own logo to the home button of the infotainment screen – something that usually features the silhouette of the McLaren Technology Centre.
This car’s livery pays homage to the iconic Gulf Team Davidoff McLaren F1 GTR Longtail. The distinctive design matches the original perfectly and even features those mesmerising day-glow wheels. In total just six P1 GTR-18s will be built, with the other five painted to mimic other legendary F1 GTR cars.
There’s no word on pricing or performance, but judging by that enlarged roof scoop, we think Lanzante might have improved upon the 986bhp on offer as standard.
