The replacement for Toyota’s second-smallest SUV has had the carpet ripped out from under it in the lead-up to its global debut
The all-new 2024 Toyota C-HR has been leaked just hours ahead of its global debut, revealing a concept car-looking exterior design for the second-generation small SUV and confirming the sporty GR Sport trim will once again be offered globally, just as we predicted.
Pre-release media images of the new-generation compact SUV were posted overnight to the Cochespies forum network, showing a two-tone yellow and black Toyota C-HR GR Sport looking all but identical to the preceding Toyota Prologue concept, save for the presence of physical wing mirrors and the lack of C-pillar illumination.
We never got to see the inside of the concept car, but we can see the C-HR’s interior has been thoroughly modernised with the inclusion of a digital instrument cluster, widescreen infotainment system, stubby electronic gear selector, segmented centre console and blockier, more ergonomic dash buttons.
The obligatory ‘GR’ logo adorns the bottom of the leather-wrapped steering wheel and is complemented nicely by red accents on the dash, gear selector and stitching.
Integrated door-handles reflect the heavy electrification bias of the second-generation C-HR, which Toyota has already confirmed will be a hybrid-only model in Australia when it arrives here in the first half of next year, although a plug-in hybrid powertrain will be offered in other markets and a battery-electric version will follow.
Toyota Australia attributed this decision to “the ever-increasing customer demand for hybrid vehicles” Down Under, where nearly a third of the dominant Japanese brand’s sales last year were hybrids.
Concrete details of the new C-HR are still thin on the ground for the time being, but with the official reveal now only a few hours away we won’t have long to wait long to get most of the answers we’re looking for – so keep an eye out for all the official details throughout the day.
Australian pricing and specification information will almost certainly be revealed closer to the model’s local launch.
