Mini’s newest not so mini new, bigger Countryman has been spied testing in the northern parts of Scandinavia with the winter season well on its way to wrapping things up. As a result, manufacturers are all over the show finishing up winter testing on upcoming models.

Motor1’s spy team have captured the third-generation of Mini’s SUV being put through its paces in snowy climes, still covered in as much camouflage as when we first learned of the new model’s existence in October 2021. The crossover will almost certainly be larger than the model which it replaces. Based on BMW’s FAAR platform which it shares with the next X1, as well as the 2 Series Active Tourer, the new model could be as much as 20 xm longer than the F60 Countryman, which of course results in more space for passenger and increased luggage capacity.

Although the camouflage does a good job at hiding the finer details, it’ll very likely be an evolution of Mini’s characteristic design language with a wide grille flanked by two round-ish headlights. There’s a good chance that the headlights on this prototype might be placeholders and the taillights are completely covered. Additionally, false panels at the rear could be doing a good job at hiding quite a lot of the crossover’s design.
It almost goes without saying that there will be an all-electric model, as well as a plug-in hybrid – supposedly the most powerful Mini of them all. Still quite a while away, it’s likely that we’ll see the new Countryman at some point in 2023, ready for a 2024 model year introduction.
