The successor to the Huracan is getting its first public workout, shrouded in camo.
The CarBuzz paparazzi has snapped images of the upcoming Lamborghini Huracan replacement for the first time, and it's nice to see the Italian brand having a sense of humor about it. The prototype is still heavily disguised, but Lamborghini knows that we know what it is. That much is clear from the Revuelto-inspired taillight stickers on the rear and the Gallardo headlight stickers on the front. It's basically the car saying, “Yep, I'm the next baby Lambo.”
While we can't comment much on the design, one thing is clear. As Lamborghini said, it's done building combustion-only cars. All new models will use some kind of electric assistance. The new baby Lambo definitely has a battery pack on board because it has more high-voltage warning stickers on it than a power station.
It also appears to be a plug-in hybrid like its bigger brother. We only caught images of one side of the car, but the right-hand-side filler cap has a warning sticker, indicating a charge port.

Even without the comedy stickers, we instantly knew this was the Huracan successor. When viewed from the side, there's no mistaking that wedge shape that has been a design trademark since the Gallardo debuted in the early noughties. The shut lines of the door also suggest that, like its predecessors, it will have regular doors and not the O-T-T kind limited to halo Lambos.
The headlights appear quite slim and Ferrari-like, but the car is too heavily disguised to get a proper feel for the front end. The rear stickers suggest that the new Lamborghini will borrow design cues from the Revuelto. At the rear, you'll also note a new vertical window, prominent buttresses, and a flat surface where you'd typically find a clear view of the engine. That leads us to believe this may be drop-top, which points to two versions of the model being developed side-by-side.

Or Lamborghini could be hiding the engine, which won't be a naturally aspirated V10. The V10 is dead, and the Huracan successor will likely be powered by a V8. The latest rumors suggest that Lamborghini will use an all-new V8 that is rumored to rev to 10k, not a unit borrowed from Audi. Either way, the baby Lamborghini will be more exclusive than ever, as company bosses recently confirmed it would not borrow an Audi platform.
We expect it will use the same aeronautics-inspired monofuselage as the Revuelto but made from cheaper materials for a more wallet-friendly sticker price. It will almost certainly inherit Lamborghini's new interior infotainment systems, user interface, and all-new eight-speed DCT transmission.

Whether it will be in a transverse layout remains to be seen, but given the packaging constraints, it's the only real option Lamborghini has. Knowing what we know about the Revuelto's layout, it makes sense, and there is some proof on the car's exterior. The dual-exist exhaust sits much higher than before, hinting that the baby Lambo will also have a tri-motor setup like its bigger brother, forcing the designers to move the exhaust outlets higher than before.
This likely means the physical connection between the front and rear wheels will be dropped, so the front wheels will be driven by electricity alone. On the downside, this likely means the days of the rear-wheel-drive Lamborghini are well and truly over.
Still, if there's one company mad enough to remove the front electric motors for the full RWD experience, it's Lamborghini.
