Shadowy teaser alludes to a new Le Mans-inspired special-edition sports car
A new Porsche 911 variant has been teased in France ahead of its global reveal in conjunction with the 2023 Le Mans Classic tomorrow, as evidenced by the Porsche 356 SL stationed in the background.
The teaser image was revealed exclusively on Twitter by Porsche France and no other Porsche division has shown any indication of a new model or variant being on the way, which leads us to believe the shadowy vehicle could be a special-edition intended solely for the French market similar to our own 911 GT3 70 Years Porsche Australia Edition.

We already know a hardened, limited-run Porsche 911 ST is in the works and approaching its own public debut, but a bit of shadow work via Photoshop reveals the teased vehicle to have a completely different rear bumper to the ST prototype previously seen in spy shots.
There’s also the matter of the vertical slats above the retractable spoiler – they’re identical to those of the standard 911 Carrera variants – and while there is some sort of text printed on the numberplate below the obligatory ‘Porsche’ logo, the image is too dark and pixelated to make out what it says.
Odds are these two words hold the key to ascertaining exactly what this mystery 911 is, but clearly Porsche doesn’t want us finding out just yet.
The presence of the 356 SL suggests the car will have something to do with Porsche’s rich history of success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – given the futuristic racer won the fabled event in 1951 – as does the ‘BornInLeMans’ hashtag accompanying the image.
That said, the ST can’t be fully ruled out given the original 911 ST was created specifically for the world’s biggest and most famous endurance race, but we can’t help but feel an original racer or homologated road version would be present somewhere in the teaser image instead of the 356.
Thankfully we don’t have long to wait to find out – just over a day in fact.
