The electric crossover will be Mini's first.
CarBuzz spy photographers have been busy this weekend and have picked up shots of the new Mini Aceman undergoing testing. This is a very important car for the BMW-owned brand, as it's expected to set new standards for the automaker's electric offerings. According to rumors, the Aceman will offer double the range of a Cooper Electric. Thanks to its size, it appears that this will replace the Clubman, a slow seller for Mini. And based on these images, it appears that the styling will stay true to that teased by the concept Mini revealed almost a year ago.
Basically, this a vehicle that could turn Mini from a niche automaker that only appeals to the style-conscious into a still-trendy brand that offers genuinely useful products.

That being said, the Aceman will still be something of a niche-filler, as it will be larger than the Cooper Hardtop and smaller than the Countryman. It should still be fairly large, however, as the Countryman is expected to swell in size thanks to its sharing of the BMW X1's platform. This will leave more room for the Aceman to become a practical electric crossover.
These images reveal a new wheel design that looks good enough to make it to the production car, and we can see small details like flush door handles and subtle roof racks. We can also see that the infotainment screen will once again be placed in a round housing, but not much else is revealed.

As for performance, the Aceman is likely to be offered in several trims, with the base model rumored to offer 181 horsepower from a front-mounted single electric motor. Range is expected to be as high as 186 miles on the WLTP cycle, thanks to a 40-kilowatt-hour battery pack. There is also said to be an Aceman SE in the works, generating 215 hp and coming with a 54-kWh battery pack that should manage 249 miles on the aforementioned Euro test cycle. Basically, the Aceman is likely to adopt the same specs as the2024 Mini Cooper Electric.
A launch is expected sometime next year, but at this time, it's unknown if the EV will make it to the US market.
