After
launching the MG ZST last year
(check out our review

), it looks like MG Philippines will be adding yet another turbocharged SUV to its line-up this year.
A tipster said that The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the exclusive distributor of MG vehicles in the country will be adding the MG HS compact SUV to its line-up by the second quarter of 2022 (check out our initial impressions

).
For the Philippine market, sources say the MG HS will be offered with a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder with 169 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. The sole gearbox is a 7-speed wet-type dual clutch automatic. If this powertrain familiar, it’s the same one found in the RX5.
In fact, the MG HS and the RX5 share the same platform, although the MG HS is larger and is much more premium in its execution which would explain its price positioning. Sources say TCCCI will be bringing in two variants with the MG HS Alpha priced at P 1,258,888 and the MG HS Trophy priced at P 1,308,888.
Of course, the additional price comes with more standard features. The MG HS will reportedly come standard with a power tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a full digital gauge cluster for the Trophy.
With the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) going back to being an in-person show, it’s very likely that MG Philippines will launch, or at least preview the 2022 MG HS on April 7.
