New engine, extra features and, yes, higher pricing for MY22 Vito van and people-mover range
The updated 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito is now available to order, emerging with extra equipment, a new engine and, as you might expect, higher pricing as a result.
Production of the MY22 Vito commercial range is set to begin this month before landing in local showrooms by May, with the lion’s share of the changes directed towards the van-based eight-seater people-mover that’s now known as the Vito Tourer (previously Valente).
Priced from $70,336 plus on-road costs, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer is more than $4500 more expensive than the outgoing Valente but comes with new features including Distronic adaptive cruise control, seat cushion length adjustment, velour floor mats, tinted windows and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Importantly, the Vito Tourer will also come powered by Mercedes’ latest 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, dubbed OM 654.
This engine is also now available on the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito 116 and 119 commercial vans for the first time, replacing the 2.1-litre diesel (OM 651).
Said to be lighter, more reliable and more durable, the new OM 654 incorporates a diesel particulate filter (DPF) that’s closer to the engine block and therefore more efficient in reaching optimum operating temperature, according to Benz.
Mercedes-Benz says the new engine also brings reductions in NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), making it “pleasantly quiet inside the vehicle” with lower “disruptive vibrations”.
The OM 654 turbo-diesel is paired with a new nine-speed automatic transmission in every application, instead of the previous seven-speed auto.
However, there are different levels of tune, depending on the model.
The Vito Tourer comes with the least powerful tune at 84kW of power and 270Nm of torque, while the mid-spec Mercedes-Benz Vito 116 and 119 vans produce 120kW/380Nm and 140kW/440Nm respectively, both in long-wheelbase (LWB) or medium-wheelbase (MWB) panel van or crew-cab form.
The 116 and 119 vans have also both copped a price increase of between $3629 and $4423, depending on the variant (see price box below), adding equipment along similar lines to that of the Tourer – adaptive cruise control, tinted windows, comfort seats and all-season rubber floor mats.

At the entry level to the range, the Vito 111 panel van – available in either short-wheelbase (SWB) or LWB guise – also now starts around $1200 higher, despite no changes in spec.
It continues with a smaller 84kW/270Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel (OM 622) mated only to a six-speed manual.
Local pricing and specs for the all-electric 2022 Mercedes-Benz eVito and eVito Tourer are still to be released ahead of their launch later this year.
