German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has teased its upcoming flagship electric EQS SUV. The Mercedes EQS SUV will be unveiled on the 19th of April.
The teaser image of the EQS SUV doesn’t really give us any details about the electric vehicle’s design creds. However, the image does give us a look at the electric SUV’s silhouette. The Mercedes EQS SUV though is expected to sport a design quite similar to the one seen on the Maybach EQS concept seen last year.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is the third electric vehicle from the German luxury carmaker that is based on the firm’s modular EVA 2 architecture. The EQS SUV will also be the fourth crossover electric vehicle from Mercedes. The German marque also sells the EQA, EQB, and EQC crossovers in international markets.
Despite sharing the EQS name with the previously launched luxury sedan, the new SUV isn’t expected to be a raised version of the other car that bears the same name badge. Instead, the new EQS SUV will be a proper luxury sports utility vehicle with space for up to 7 people and the ability to go off-roading thanks to dedicated off-roading modes.
The all-new EQS SUV is expected to feature the same gigantic 107.8kWh battery pack first seen on the EQS sedan. The EQS is also expected to feature a dual motor setup from the start with a single motor version with rear-wheel-drive set to arrive later. A more powerful AMG version is also expected to arrive later in the SUV’s product cycle.
The Mercedes EQS SUV is expected to offer air suspension as standard. This setup along with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is expected to give the EQS SUV the ability to go off the beaten path with ease. Mercedes has confirmed that the EQS SUV will be able to traverse 600 kilometres with a fully charged battery pack.
The EQS SUV’s interiors are expected to be quite similar to the one seen on the sedan. The massive 56-inch, edge-to-edge, dashboard covering ‘Hyperscreen’ touchscreen setup from the EQS sedan is expected to be offered as an option for customers.
The EQS SUV is expected to feature a setup similar to the one seen on the S-Class with a horizontal display behind the steering wheel and a larger vertically aligned touchscreen playing host to the infotainment system. Whatever display setup is chosen, the infotainment system will respond to voice commands following the ‘Hey Mercedes’ catchphrase.
The new Mercedes EQS SUV will be manufactured at the German carmaker’s manufacturing facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The EQS SUV will be joined at the American production facility by the smaller EQE SUV which is currently under development.
Thoughts On The Upcoming EQS SUV
The EQS SUV will be Merc’s fourth electric crossover to hit the roads. While it may bear the EQS name, the upcoming EV from Mercedes is not expected to be just a raised version of the current sedan. Instead, we expect the EQS SUV to live up to the sports utility part of its name and take its owners offroading in complete luxurious silence.
