In the run-up to the 72nd Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance that is taking place this Sunday, 20 August, Mercedes-Benz will unveil its next-generation AMG GT as well as a special-edition AMG SL to the world for the first time.
Also taking place at the legendary car show, the German automaker is presenting two concepts namely the Vision One‑Eleven and Project Mondo G, an exclusive example of the Mercedes‑AMG S 63 E Performance that has spent many hours inside the Manufaktur customisation programme, and a historic Maybach Zeppelin DS 7 that it borrowed from a private collection to show to fans and customers.
Finally, the event will play host to the launch of the limited-edition C 111 accessories collection, and to sign off the weekend in the right way, Mercedes is gathering the largest number of W 06-generation vehicles in North America for a breathtaking tour.
GT and SL
We first got a look at the all-new GT in pre-production form at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July where the one-of-one concept was driven up a grass embankment shortly after the driver started doing donuts at the end of the sprint.
Now, we only have around two days left to wait before seeing the two-door coupe in all its glory, ready to take on the roads of the wealthiest neighbourhoods around the world.
Following the SLS, the first-generation GT, the GT 4‑Door Coupé, and the SL, the new GT is the fifth vehicle to have been developed entirely in-house by Mercedes‑AMG, following a similar concept to its predecessor to remain true to its sporty and dynamic nature.

The next-gen GT features a “modified dimensional concept” which is a fancy way of saying its dimensions have changed, and judging from previous launches, it’s likely the two-door has grown in size.
From the Goodwood spectacle, we can also imply that it will retain the signature V8 engine and quad-exhausts that have made it so loved.
“The all-new AMG GT thus embodies the brand’s high standards of performance luxury like no other product from Affalterbach,” said the automaker.
Mercedes has, unfortunately, not disclosed much about the new SL coming our way, only stating that it will “also celebrate its global premiere.”

What else is happening?
In addition to the new GT, Mercedes has confirmed that it has two concepts to put on show at Pebble Beach and the Monterey Car Week for fans to enjoy.
Among these is the Vision One-Eleven that only made its world debut a few weeks ago in California and signifies an ongoing study into fully-electric sports cars from Mercedes.
Technical highlights of the car take the form of a “super sporty one-bow” design and two powerful and highly-efficient axial-flux motors from UK-based YASA.
Together with the One-Eleven, Mercedes is introducing the C 111 accessories collection comprising a branded weekend bag, hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, cap, and protective case for an iPhone 14 Pro that has all of the concept’s signature design hallmarks, with all five items limited to 111 pieces and directly available from 1of111.com.
Vision One‑Eleven
Alongside the sleek sportscar concept, the marque will display the Project Mondo G artwork that forms part of a collaboration between it and the high-end fashion brand Moncler.
The SUV “combines the characteristic features of the Mercedes‑Benz G‑Class with the puffer jacket by Moncler” in what the companies call “The Art of Genius.”

For the ultimate Mercedes patrons, the Maybach division is further presenting a 93-year-old Maybach Zeppelin DS 7 at an exclusive lunch event to show the stark contrast between one of its oldest vehicles and one of its newest – the all-electric EQS 680 SUV.
This event will also provide a discussion platform on the development and use of new technologies based on artificial intelligence (AI), with experts such as Dr. Poppy Crum from Stanford University and Ulrich Schmid‑Maybach, President of the Maybach Foundation.

After Pebble Beach concludes, Mercedes‑Benz’s Classic subsidiary has one more treat up its sleeves.
It is hosting another high-class event from August 21 to 24 focused entirely on the supercharged sports and racing cars of the S‑series, which will bring together 20 of these legendary vehicles thus making it the “largest gathering of W 06 series cars in North America this year,” said Mercedes.
In addition, the new Mercedes-AMG GT and special-edition SL will also partake in the tour, as will the Maharajah of Kashmir’s Mercedes‑Benz Super Sport Cabriolet at the hands of Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Heritage.
