The brand's best-seller looks to get more expensive and more refined.
Mercedes has finally revealed the pricing and packaging structure of its upcoming 2023 GLC-Class SUV. The SUV, which was the brand's best-selling vehicle in 2022, is hoping to capitalize on that success with an all-new model for 2023 that features more technology and refinement than before.
In the past, the GLC came in two trims: GLC 300 SUV and GLC 300 4MATIC SUV. It had a decent amount of standard features, but if you really wanted more you needed to opt for packages instead of trims. Mercedes seems to think that wasn't good enough for its sales king, so it decided to give the vehicle two new trims that we've seen previously on the C-Class sedan: Exclusive and Pinnacle.
Pricing has therefore been adjusted accordingly, and now the vehicle can top out at $53,450, which is closing in on almost $10,000 more than last year's top trim. The base Standard trim will then start at $47,100, $3,250 more expensive than last year's cheapest model.
The rest of the pricing is as follows: The GLC 300 starts at $47,100 for the Standard trim, moves up to $49,350 for the Exclusive Trim, and then tops out at $51,450. If you want AWD, 4MATIC will run you an increase of $2,000 on all trims; bringing prices to $49,100, $51,350, and $53,450 respectively. All vehicles will then have a $1,150 destination fee as well.
The base trim we were used to before is now called the Standard trim and includes a whole host of standard features just like in the past. It includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and 11.9-inch central display, wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, MBUX Intelligent Vehicle Assistant, Keyless Start and Go, Heated 16-way Power Front Seats with Memory, an auto-dimming mirror, 64-color Ambient lighting, Dynamic terrain select, and rain-sensing wipers.
On the safety side, it also comes standard with LED headlamps with adaptive high beams and taillamps, active braking assist, Blind spot assist, Parktronic with active park assist, Attention assist, and collision warning.
All of these features are then carried over to the higher trims, with the Exclusive trim additionally getting a Burmester 3D surround sound system, Navigation, Surround View, Enhanced ambient lighting, Illuminated door sills, and Guard 360 anti-theft system.
At the very top, the Pinnacle trim receives everything below it, plus Augmented Video for navigation, a Head-up display, heat and noise-insulating glass, and the impressive Digital Light system.
The new SUV is more of a continuation of what we're used to than a completely new vehicle as many automakers have been coming to do in recent years, but the changes are substantial, especially on the interior. The biggest of which is the new floating 12.3-inch digital instrument panel along with an 11.9-inch central display which immediately declutters and modernizes the interior.
This utilizes the newest generation of MBUX which will now control most of the functions in the car. A really cool feature now found in the 300 4MATIC is the “Transparent Hood” available with Surround View on the higher trims that allow you to see directly under the hood of the hood at low speeds, including the wheels and steering suspension, to pilot safely over obstacles.
Also under the hood, the vehicle now sports a new turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that replaces all previous engines. In standard guise, it produces 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, but these numbers are able to increase by 23 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque depending on the driving conditions.
The SUV is set to hit dealers' lots this spring. The company is also set to unveil the new version of the Mercedes GLC Coupe this spring, and we can expect pricing and trims to be similar.
