McLaren is treating US customers to their very own supercar. Called the Sabre, it’s limited to 15 units, and just in case you’ve got ideas about quickly relocating to the US to nab one, you might as well know they’re all sold.
McLaren Beverly Hills pulled the wraps off the Sabre, which was developed by McLaren Special Operations specifically for the US market using ‘ideas and innovations that global homologation would not permit’ the Brit company says.
Looking like a cross between the McLaren Senna and Speedtail models, the Sabre features McLaren’s trademark dihedral doors and a giant dorsal fin running from the roof to the tapered tail.
McLaren hasn’t shared a full technical breakdown yet but we know it features the company’s non-hybrid twin-turbo V8, and makes a colossal 824bhp and 590lb ft of torque, making it the most powerful road going McLaren not to feature electric assistance.
There’s no word on how quickly it accelerates, but the top speed is quoted as 218mph, which means it’s the fastest two-seat McLaren ever built. Both the F1 and Speedtail are faster, but they have three seats.
And as for price, McLaren is keeping quiet about that, too, but you can bet the 15 lucky owners will have parted with at least £1m to put one on their gated drives.
Those owners visited McLaren’s design studio to talk to stylists in the UK, and were given the chance to drive a Sabre development car around Thermal Club’s private race circuit earlier this year and give feedback to McLaren’s engineers before the cars were signed off.
