- 815 PS, 800 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 2.8s
- Lightest yet
- Windscreen is optional
- 149 units globally
McLaren Kuala Lumpur, the sole official importer and retailer for Mclaren Automotive, has previewed the McLaren Elva. It is an open-cockpit two-seater, joining the brand’s Ultimate Series alongside the McLaren Senna and McLaren Speedtail. Only 149 units will be made globally.
The unit previewed here is the windscreen version, for those who prefer a physical screen rather than wind deflectors.
McLaren claims that the Elva is the lightest road car made by the company, tipping the scale at 1,269 kg (DIN). With 815 PS/800 Nm from the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, 0-100 km/h takes 2.8 seconds while 0-200 km/h takes 6.8 seconds, onwards to a top speed of 326 km/h.
The screenless Elva is McLaren Automotive’s lightest-ever road car and the windscreen version is said to be 20 kg heavier, with the inclusion of electronically synchronised rain-sensing wipers, washer jets and sun visors, as well of course as the heated glass windscreen within a carbon fibre surround.
The Active Air Management System (AAMS) that is featured in the screenless Elva has been deleted as it has no role to play in the windscreen car.
Brakes are taken off the Senna, with carbon ceramic discs measuring 390 mm for both front and rear. Wheels are staggered in size, with 19-inch units at the front and 20-inch at the rear, wrapped with 245/35 R19 and 305/30 R20 Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres respectively.
As with cars of this stature, the famous quote by J.P. Morgan applies – “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.” But we did some homework and found that the McLaren Elva is priced from USD 1.69m in the States and from GBP 1.425m in the UK.
Converting those numbers based on currency at present moment, you’re looking at a starting price of at least RM 7m to 8m for a McLaren Elva before tax and options in Malaysia.
Interested parties may visit McLaren Kuala Lumpur’s showroom at Glenmarie, Shah Alam in the Klang Valley. We were told that the McLaren Elva will be in Malaysia for about two weeks before heading off to make its debut in other regions.
