It will get an all-electric platform that will offer a long wheelbase of 2,700mm. Also, an electric-specific platform comes with the ability to put flat battery packs between the axles for the best weight distribution.
AWD electric SUV
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota’s first electric SUV will arrive in the Indian market in 2025
According to ACI, the YY8 will be available in 2WD and AWD drivetrains. The lower-powered versions will come with the 48 kWh battery pack that powers the 138 PS electric motor. The AWD variants will offer two electric motors on each axle. The electric SUV also gets a larger 59 kWh battery pack and the dual motors produce a maximum power of about 170 PS. In real-world conditions, the car will do about 500 km.
Both the vehicles will offer 2WD and AWD options
All the batteries used in the upcoming SUVs will be made in India by TDSG, which is a JV between Suzuki, Denso, and Toshiba. Locally sourcing the battery will help the brands to put competitive price tags on the vehicles.
Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki sells a slew of AWD products known as the AllGrip including the Ignis and the Swift. However, these products are only for sale in foreign markets and never reached the Indian market. We believe that the higher-powered AWD dual-motor variants will be an export-only model.

Toyota might sell both variants in the Indian market. Since both the cars are being developed from the ground up, expect both of them to look very different from each other even though the specifications will remain the same.
Affordable pricing
Given the late arrival of electric cars from the Japanese manufacturers in the Indian market, the brands will love to put an affordable and attractive price tag on the cars. The Maruti Suzuki YY8 will be quite competitive and is likely to be priced between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 15 lakh.
