The launch of the Lotus Evija electric hypercar has been delayed by a minimum of five months, according to Autocar. It was scheduled for the end of this year, but testing has apparently been interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Customers have been informed by letter that their cars will not arrive until sometime in the first half of 2021.
Travel lockdowns and quarantine measures put a stop to testing of Lotus’ four protypes of the 2,000bhp Evija, of which only 130 will be made.
Speaking to Autocar, Lotus boss Phil Popham, said :“We have lost five months of testing, mainly in continental Europe. We have missed hot weather testing in Spain. It’s not as simple as moving everything to the right as you have to book facilities and there’s a queue, with everyone in the same boat.”
Of the 130 scheduled to be built, Louts is apparently in talks with 70 people, many of whom have put down a deposit already.
