Both are finished in Plasma Orange but one is a road car and the other a hardcore racing variant of the Supra.
According to Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), the GR Supra GT4 customer motorsports vehicle has hit the 100-unit production milestone, and TGR will launch three limited-edition GT4 models to celebrate the achievement, making it even more exclusive than the 50 Edition GT4-spec Supra unveiled last year. In tandem with this, a road-going Plasma Orange 100 Edition version of the GR Supra will be sold via lottery in Japan and is limited to 100 units.
Although the Toyota GR Supra doesn't quite have the racing pedigree of the Porsche 911, the Supra GT4 racing car has had quite a run since launching in March 2020 in Europe and in August of that year in North America. It has achieved 625 cumulative entries since the end of 2022, along with 79 class victories.
Each of the three racing versions known as the GR Supra GT4 100 Edition comes with an exclusive exterior color, a special badge with a serial number, and bespoke front bodywork.
As its name dictates, the non-racing Supra Plasma Orange 100 Edition is finished in the same fiery Plasma Orange hue. It has forged aluminum wheels in black, along with black-painted calipers. Inside is a mix of leather and Alcantara, along with a carbon ornament with the model designation on it ahead of the front passenger seat.
The Plasma Orange 100 Edition will be sold via lottery in Japan for 7,600,000 yen, or about $56,000 at current rates. For context, the base 3.0-liter Supra starts at $53,000 in the USA.
20 overall wins and 207 podium finishes in various GT4 championships around the world further showcase the GR Supra's excellence, and that includes Japan's own Super Taikyu Series. The race car continues to thrive in Europe and North America, with 20 examples set to compete in the 2023 motorsports season in the latter region alone, plus another 27 in Europe and 12 in Asia. North America's 2023 events for the Supra GT4 will include the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, the GT America Powered by AWS, and the Pirelli GT4 America.
Since its launch, the car has undergone several improvements to maintain its competitiveness. In October last year, Toyota launched the GR Supra GT4 Evo with an improved six-cylinder engine, new ABS brake settings, and enhanced damper technology. It also received a new specification for the anti-roll bars.
For the road car, the Supra has also undergone improvements through the years by adding a manual gearbox and special models like the A91-CF Edition.
