A Ferrari 599 F1 GTB Fiorano with just 23,000 miles on the clock and that was once the runabout of seminal guitarist Eric Clapton has gone for sale on Auto Trader. At £89,900 it’s actually very reasonably priced too, regardless of its rock ‘n’ roll provenance.
The two-door coupe, finished in Nero Daytona and with a Castoro Light Brown interior (black and beige, basically), comes with an F1 paddleshift automatic gearbox, yellow painted carbon ceramic brakes (which will alone have cost a five-figure sum to specify at the time), carbon fibre interior trim, 20-inch alloys, parking sensors all around, electrically adjustable seats, a leather parcel shelf, and a Bose stereo upgrade – obviously, because Clapton was never going to stick with the standard system, right?
The mileage of the 2008 model 599, although a little lower than average for a Ferrari this age, suggests Clapton used it as a daily driver. It’s powered by a 12-cylinder 6.0-litre engine with 612bhp, good for a 3.7-second sprint to 62mph and a 205mph top speed.
As lovely as this is though, the 599 here is a positively pedestrian Ferrari by Clapton’s standards. A known car enthusiast, he once had Ferrari create him a one-off bespoke model (below) called the SP12 EC (Eric Clapton, of course) based on a 458 Italia, designed in homage to the Ferrari 512 BB, three of which Clapton has owned through the years. He paid around £3,000,000 for his custom model, which was designed by Pininfarina.
Clapton has recently decided to sell off a number of his exotic cars, shifting a Lamborghini Gallardo Superlegera for a reported £125,000 of late meaning this is unlikely to be the last Clapton supercar we’ll see. The former Cream guitarist has reportedly owned more than ten Ferraris, including a few given to him by George Harrison of The Beatles, because that’s just the sort of thing you do for a mate, right?
