Lotus Cars Manila had one big announcement during the 02.02.2022: the last internal combustion engined Lotus, the Emira, is coming this year. And its price tag? A cool P 8,888,888.
The revelation was made by Willy Tee-Ten no less, the president of the Autohub Group. The exclusive distributor of Lotus Cars in the Philippines didn’t make much specifics in his announcement, but it is likely that the upcoming sportscar headed to the Philippines will be powered by the Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6. The mill, tuned by Lotus and equipped with an Edelbrock supercharger will makes 400 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque (420 Nm for the manual). This allows for a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds (4.3 for the manual) and a top speed of 290 km/h.
Now, Tee-Ten didn’t specify what sort of transmission will come with the Emira (he did say that allocation will be limited and that the order books are filling up), but other sources say the price he quoted was for the automatic transmission variant. A 6-speed manual will also be made to order, and that one will cost, supposedly around P 8,600,000.
The Emira has been developed on a new lightweight bonded aluminum chassis. Measuring in at 4,412 mm in length; 1,895 mm in width; 1,225 mm in height; and with a 2,575 mm wheelbase, it carries a design clearly inspired by their all-electric Evija flagship.
Inside, Lotus prides itself with the Emira’s simple, yet highly ergonomic cabin. Yet, there’s also a huge step storage space and even practicality. For example, they promise best-in-class ingress/egress and headroom. It will also come with technologies such as a push button engine start/stop, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and even an Advanced Driver Assistance System or ADAS.
Access to the car’s infotainment system is via a 10.25-inch centrally mounted touch-screen, with an additional 12.3-inch TFT driver’s display behind the steering wheel. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are integrated as standard.
Apart from the Lotus Emira, the Autohub Group has also made plans to launch two new brands this year—one being a motorcycle brand, and the other being an electric vehicle brand.
