The McLaren F1 is an automotive legend. Not only was it the world’s fastest road car for over a decade, not only was it designed by Gordon Murray, but it also won the famed Le Mans 24 Hour race on its first outing back in 1995. The team behind the victorious car are now creating a series of special edition McLarens to mark the anniversary.
It’s hard to overstate how incredible the McLaren F1’s victory at Le Mans was. Obviously the car was fast, but this production machine was never intended to take on custom-built prototype racers. Lanzante couldn’t help but take the top step of the podium with the F1 being so incredibly fast.
Today, Lanzante retains a relationship with McLaren as it converts track cars into road-legal variants with McLaren’s blessing. The P1 GTR was given better ground clearance and a string of modifications to turn the racer into something you could technically drive to Tesco.
Lanzante has announced that it will create seven ‘LM 25’ vehicles that feature a livery and carbon wheels to hark back to the 1995 racing car. These seven cars will be made up of a Senna GTR, Senna, 765 LT coupe and Spider, as well as a 600 LT coupe and Spider. The seventh car in the series will be revealed later this year.
In addition to external modifications, each machine will get a gold ceramic heat shield, gold pedals and blue racing harnesses. An additional tweak will be the installation of Lanzante’s own lightweight seats.
Each conversion costs from £120,000 and takes around three months to complete. You will need to supply the donor car yourself.
We’re keen to see what Lanzante has in store for its seventh and final special vehicle.
