Just 19 models will be produced, and no two vehicles will be alike.
Eccentrica Cars has finally revealed its resto-modded Diablo supercar, and it was worth the wait. The '90s icon has been reimagined for the 21st century, with many modern improvements bringing the classic Lambo into the limelight again.
Before we get to the exquisite styling, let's take a look at the most crucial aspect; performance. The original 5.7-liter V12 engine has been thoroughly reworked with new valves and camshafts and now produces 542 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. The company claims the Diablo Eccentrica can hit 62 mph in 3.5 seconds before hitting its top speed of 208 mph.
The signature V12 soundtrack is accentuated by a new Capristo exhaust system with aluminum tailpipes. All that power is sent to the rear wheels, but, to keep it in check, Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubber keeps the Diablo glued to the road. The company says these semi-slick tires are perfect for road and track use, providing a delicate balance between the two.
Eccentrica has tapped Brembo to create a unique braking system comprising six-piston monoblocks and slotted discs. Braking from 62 to 0 mph requires just 121.4 feet, 22.9 feet less than the standard Diablo.
The Italian firm hasn't shared any details regarding weight but says mass has been kept down with the use of carbon fiber and titanium. This has resulted in an ideal power-to-weight ratio lower than 6.4 lbs per hp. Furthermore, the chassis has been strengthened to provide superior safety and on-road stability.
While the Eccentrica Diablo is similar in design to the donor car, the company says the only unchanged part of the vehicle is the windshield. The length and height remain unchanged, but the overhang is shorter, and the track has been widened at the front and rear.
Up front, the fascia takes inspiration from the Diablo GT, with a large air vent area. The headlights are rather unique. Referred to as “pop-down headlights,” these concealed items retain the retro look but still adhere to modern safety standards.
The side skirts are both beautiful and functional. An aerodynamic fin allows the vehicle to cut through the air more cleanly, while the side windows were repositioned to integrate the B-pillar more neatly. Thankfully, the breathtaking scissor doors remain. Elsewhere, new motorsport-inspired 19-inch wheels cut a stylish figure.
It's at the rear where we see the biggest design departure. Slim bumpers fashioned out of carbon fiber work together with prominent air intakes, giving the car an aggressive demeanor from behind. The quad circular taillights have been retained, but are modernized with an LED design. Eccentrica Cars has leaned on 3D printing to produce several components, including the logo.
Subtle air scoops on the roof hark back to the Diablo SV and are only visible from the rear. This improves airflow and is a special visual touch. The firm has also hidden several easter eggs across the vehicle, such as the NACA air intakes, which mirror bullhorns – a homage to the Diablo's name and heritage.
The interior is an absolute delight. Inspired by luxury watchmaking and '90s design, the interior merges retro charm with luxury details. All the plastic trim bits have been replaced with modern materials, while the controls have been repositioned for a more ergonomic experience.
Diablo fans will be pleased to know the original steering wheel has been retained, but Eccentrica Cars has been redesigned for a safer experience. The company has purposefully left the carbon fiber steering column and shaft exposed, mimicking the exposed detailing you often find on high-end timepieces.
The dashboard has been redesigned to be more aesthetically pleasing. Gone are the cheap-looking air vents. In their place is a slim air vent that spans the width of the fascia. The retro digital instrument panel is a wonderful touch, but it's nothing compared to the gorgeous gated shifter and high-quality controls.
Every vehicle will receive a modern audio system from Marantz, which delivers a soulful listening experience.
Redesigned seats have been trimmed in a fine blend of blue Alcantara and leather upholstery. The sports seats feature the embossed “crossed Cs” logos for an added special touch. The suede-like material extends toward the center console and dashboard, which has also been enlivened with carbon fiber inlays.
Behind the seats, you'll find a designated storage space, which can accommodate optional custom luggage from Eccentrica Cars.
To fire up the mighty V12, Eccentrica Cars has created a rather unique start-up sequence. Described as a “genuine ritual,” the owner slots the key into the ignition and pulls levers in front of the gear lever. This switches on the fuel and injection pumps. Once this is completed, press the injection and ignition button, and the 12-pot comes alive.
So, what will all this Italian goodness set you back? And will you be able to even get your hands on one?
Even if you can afford the €1,200,000 (approx. $1.3 million) starting price, Eccentrica only plans on producing 19 examples of its reimagined Diablo. It's worth mentioning the cost doesn't include the donor vehicle; original Diablos sell for big money, so don't expect $1.3 million to be the final amount.
Given that Lamborghini produced 2,884 Diablos between 1990 and 2001, we previously surmised that the company would produce the vehicle in limited numbers.
Eccentrica Cars says no two vehicles will be alike, with collectors and customers offered various personalization options. This will presumably extend to the exterior paint finishes, interior upholstery hues, and, perhaps, even wheel designs. Each vehicle will take between 16 and 18 months to complete.
We must say, it's a remarkable vehicle and will make a fine addition parked alongside other V12 Lambos, including the new Revuelto, in a cherished collection. We're glad Eccentrica has decided to embark on this project as, after the new Countach was revealed, Lamborghini said it has no plans to introduce more retro-inspired models.
