Its hard to beat the sound of a naturally aspirated Lamborghini V12.
For some automotive brands that have been shaped around sonic interaction, it is almost impossible to imagine a completely silent operation akin to that of an electric vehicle. Well, Lamborghini’s combustion engine will live beyond 2030 as the Raging Bull has not bet everything on electric… yet.
Its hard to beat the sound of a naturally aspirated Lamborghini V12.
Like other sports car brands that are so reliant on the sound sensations that reverberate through the rev-range in an awe inspiring moment of pleasure, the Sant’Agata Bolognese marque also intends to produce petrol engines after 2030. Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini confirmed the development of new technologies designed to prolong the iconic powertrains that the brand has become synonymous with while also employing the help of hybridisation.
He further stated that “After hybridization, we will wait to see whether it will be possible to offer vehicles with an internal combustion engine beyond 2030,” further adding that “One possibility would be to keep combustion engine vehicles alive via synthetic fuels.”
Carbon neutral synthetic fuels will be the solution to respecting the ever-stringent emission regulations that are slowly forcing automotive manufacturers to mandate alternative powertrains to mass produced vehicles. In reality, this makes sense for high performance cars that are produced in small numbers.
Before you gasp at why the automotive world has not adopted synthetic fuels on a widespread solution for run-of-the-mill commuters that hold a special place in our hearts, the cost and energy resource required to generate this eFuel would price it far out of the reach of most, thus yielding it uneconomical to implement across the board.
Sharing Porsche as an equivalent brand also helps with further research and development of this technology after the German sports car maker has invested around $24 million in a large-scale commercial synfuels plant on the coast of Chile. This is rumoured to be a strategic investment to help continue running the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, just with synthetic fuels.
So, Lamborghini’s combustion engine that is beloved by all who came across it seems safe, for now at least.
