This is the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Xago, a car with more hexagons than we care to imagine and whose existence is specifically to show off the company’s virtual Ad Personam customisation service. Traditionally the Ad Personam thing was only available to buyers willing to fly to Italy and physically order their car, with the help of one of Lamborghini’s customer service technicians.
Now, however – and possibly owing to the post-COVID world in which we live – the service can be accessed virtually. So what better way to announce that than to make a car in-house using the service, give it a fancy name and make it a very limited edition production run – just 10 Aventador SVJ Xagos will be made.
The theme of the Xago is hexagons. No, seriously. And so you’d think that the hexagon had some particular relevance to a Lamborghini innovation or engineering solution or some such, but no – the hexagons were inspired by “the hexagonal clouds on Saturn’s north pole.” Okay then.
Still, it does demonstrate the scope of possibilities with the virtual Ad Personam service. Fancy basing your Aventador’s exterior paint on the patina of Christ’s sandals? No problem.
As you can see, the Xago’s paint job does go further than sticking on a few hexagons. Instead they’re faded into and out of the paint, both on the doors and wings. They feature on the seats as well. You’ll see the blue highlights too. And…that’s about it. Although you do get a special plaque on each to say it’s been fettled by the Ad Personam studio in Italy, which will no doubt add a few quid come resale time.
Despite the ‘virtual’ thing, customising a Lamborghini like this is not just a case of going to a website and messing around with a few options. Customers are asked to book a consultation through a specific Lamborghini dealership, who will then set up a virtual meeting including of walkarounds and design suggestions. The dealership will them knock up some digital renderings and can send material samples through the post.
“With the support of our dealers worldwide, who also have significant personalisation experience and, of course, samples and materials in their own dealerships, we have the exciting opportunity in an increasingly digital age to create one-off Lamborghini models virtually,” said Lamborghini’s Giovanni Perosino.
No word on how much it’ll set you back for one of these, but a standard Aventador SVJ costs about £360,000, so expect post-£400k at the very least. But however you tart the thing up, the highlight is always going to be the 6.5-litre V12 engine, good for 759bhp and a 0-62mph sprint under three seconds. Nice.
