Lamborghini has officially entered the world of competitive esports, announcing a one make racing championship called The Real Race. It’s based on the Assetto Corsa Competizione game – a follow up to Assetto Corsa released in 2019 specifically to accommodate esports and available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
The Real Race will take place on the PC version of the game, which is free to download for anyone who registers and is open to anyone of any skill level. Players will drive a virtual Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, decorated in one of 12 liveries commissioned by Lamborghini specifically for this event.
Qualifying is taking place now and is open across five one-week sessions, the last ending 30 July and each dedicated to a different circuit, as follows:
Round 1, 29 May-6 June: MONZA
Round 2, 12-18 June: SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS
Round 3, 26 June-2 July: NÜRBURGRING
Round 4, 10-16 July: SUZUKA
Round 5, 24-30 July: LAGUNA SECA.
On 18 September the top five players will head to Lamborghini’s Sant’ Agata Bolognaise HQ (all expenses paid, natch) for a live final. Easy as that.
Former F1 driver David Coulthard will commentate on the final. “I’ve paid close attention to the rise of esports. Seeing the realism of racing games and how drivers are using racing simulators to practice, or professional esports players going from simulation to the real thing, is just incredible”, he said.
Better yet, the top three racers from the final will be given the chance to drive a proper Lamborghini race car alongside the Lamborghini Squadra Corse race drivers themselves. The competition winner will also get a limited edition diecast model of the racing car complete with in-game livery.
