American autonomous technology company Kodiak Robotics has successfully navigated the entirety of the I-45 highway without any disengagement of its self-driving system, making regular customer deliveries between Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston.
In short, the truck has completed two round-trips in a row, covering 800 miles, without the need for a human override.
Kodiak has released a video of both its first disengage-free run as well as its disengage-free day on its website, showing more than 1000 miles of unedited video footage.
Take a look below.
Kodiak is building and operating self-driving trucks designed to operate on highway routes, making the freight industry safer, greener, and more efficient. Kodiak was founded in 2018 by self-driving industry veteran Don Burnette and venture capitalist Paz Eshel. The Company delivers freight for its customers daily between Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, operating autonomously on the highway portion of the route. Kodiak plans
on deploying fully driverless vehicles in the coming years.
“Kodiak’s first disengage-free deliveries are an incredible milestone for the autonomous trucking industry,” said Don Burnette, Kodiak’s co-founder and CEO. “These deliveries were not stunts for the press or demos for investors. We used our production hardware and software, without resorting to shortcuts that only work under constrained conditions. I have spent my career working on self-driving vehicles, and Kodiak’s regular disengage-free deliveries are without question the most exciting achievement I’ve ever
been a part of.”
This milestone comes as Kodiak became the first self-driving trucking startup to be
selected as a CES® 2021 Innovation Awards Honoree.
