The Kia Sorento’s fourth generation was unveiled towards the end of 2020. In addition to diesel and regular hybrids, a plug-in hybrid variant is now available as a premium model. For the 2022 model year, a six-seater configuration and a new brand emblem on the body will be introduced.
Kia now offers a plug-in hybrid version of the new Sorento, in addition to the previously announced motorizations, which include a hybrid with no external charging option. The highest model in the range is the Sorento PHEV, which has a system output of 265 horsepower.
The Kia Sorento PHEV has been available since 2021, while the other two types (diesel and normal hybrid) have been available from October of this year. After all, the new Kia Sorento was announced online, thus it should have had its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2020.
The mid-range SUV from the Korean manufacturer is based on a new platform. The revised variant gains 10 millimeters in length and 35 millimeters in wheelbase for a total of 2,815 millimeters. The new Sorento is designed to provide additional room for people and baggage.
Customers may personalize this room to suit their needs. Kia provides the Sorento in five and seven-seat configurations. A six-seater will be offered as a third variation for model year 2022 (with the new Kia emblem on the exterior), but only for the diesel with all-wheel drive and the PHEV.
Instead of a continuous bench in the second row, the Koreans have two comfort single seats that can be turned and rotated independently, as well as an armrest in the vehicle’s center and heated seats. Choose the diesel engine if you place a high priority on cargo while making your decision.
It can carry up to 720 kg (2WD) as a five-seater, 718 kilos (2WD) as a seven-seater, and 698 kilos as a six-seater (4WD). With a weight of 515 kg, the PHEV as a five-seater has the lowest payload (605 kg as a six-seater, 623 kg as a seven-seater). The normal hybrid weighs between 649 and 722 kg.
Sorento in the Telluride style
The new Sorento takes its design cues from the Telluride.
The new Sorento is built on the new SUV line that was already established by the Telluride, a US SUV. The Sorento’s more dynamic facial appearance is largely due to a fresh interpretation of the “tiger nose.” The front of the house grew broader and more open. New LED daytime running lights have been installed in the headlights.
Exterior mirrors of the fourth generation are now enthroned on the door sill rather than in the triangle window.
The side view is nearly unaltered. The gradually rising window line may be seen below, as well as the roof softly tapering towards the back. The new vertical two-part LED lights in a strip shape may be seen in the back perspective. Fat tailpipes with chrome bezels are highlighted in the redesigned apron. Above the back window is a roof spoiler.
The inside has been remodeled by Koreans. The horizontally aligned dashboard features a massive digital display in front of the driver with a 12.3-inch diagonal screen and another large touchscreen above the center console. It has a 10.25-inch screen and is used to control the UVO Connect telematics system.
A rotary knob replaces the traditional automated gear selector lever on the central console.
Of course, the next Sorento generation will come with a slew of assistance features, including a remote parking aid for all engines starting in model year 2022. The Sorento can now be moved into and out of a parking place using the key from the outside. A head-up display is also available from Kia, which projects information directly onto the windshield.
