Hon Hai Technology Group (better known as Foxconn) has announced two, new self-developed electric vehicles (EVs) at its third annual Hon Hai Tech Day – Model B crossover/hatchback and Model V electric pickup.
The Model B crossover is based on the Model C platform (the MIH open source vehicle architecture), but with changes to the platform size and a new body design. Its S-duct design, the streamlined roof, and the innovative air curtain on the C-pillar greatly reduces air turbulence.
This allows the Model B to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd. The 4.3-metre Model B has a claimed cruising range of 450 km. The company says that its 2.8-metre wheelbase creates a comfortable, roomy cockpit.
Meanwhile, Foxconn says the Model V is the first electric pick-up truck designed and developed in Taiwan. It is said to have a payload of up to 1 tonne and towing capacity of 3 tonnes with all-terrain capability,
The EV pick-up adopts a double-cab, 5-seat configuration. Sensors surrounding the body are combined with electronic rearview mirrors and a display screen to integrate the instrument panel.
Production version of the Model C
The company also unveiled the production version of the Model C and is expected to hit the roads in Taiwan in the second half of 2023.
Model C prototype
Closer to Malaysia, The Foxtron Model C will reportedly go on sale in Thailand in 2023 and is expected to be produced in the upcoming plant set up by a joint venture between Thailand’s state-owned oil company PTT and Foxconn.
