Porsche brings its purist T trim level to the Macan.
Not everyone needs the power of a GT3 or Turbo, which is why Porsche reintroduced its T series for the 911 in 2017, and later for the 718 Boxster and Cayman in 2019. Now Porsche is putting its popular T badge (which stands for Touring) on an SUV for the first time. Say hello to the 2023 Porsche Macan T, the lightest and purest version of Stuttgart's smallest crossover.
The Macan T follows in the track of Porshe's other T models, using the least powerful engine available in the lineup. In this case, that's a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder punching out 261 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. As with the standard Macan, power goes out to all four wheels through a seven-speed (PDK) dual-clutch transmission.
It may have significantly less power than the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6-powered Macan S and Macan GTS (375 hp and 434 hp, respectively), but the Macan T is 129 pounds lighter over the front axle, which Porsche says gives it “particularly nimble handling and optimal cornering ability.” The Macan T includes the Sport Chrono Package as standard, adding a mode switch and Sport Response button on the steering wheel. Porsche says this trim will hit 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and reach a top track speed of 144 mph. The standard Macan takes six seconds to reach 60 mph, but matches the Macan T's time with the Sport Chrono Package.
Opting for the Macan T adds elements that are optional on the base model, including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and available features like Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and optional adaptive air suspension. The T's exterior is differentiated from other Macan trims with Agate Grey Metallic accents on the front trim, side mirrors, side blades, roof spoiler, and rear logos. A set of 20-inch Macan S design wheels are one-inch larger than the standard Macan and come in a special dark titanium finish.
Buyers can select one of 13 colors on the Macan T, while the interior comes with standard eight-way adjustable heated sports seats finished in a Sport-Tex Stripe pattern with embossed Porsche crests on the headrests. Porsche's options list should be quite long, but standard equipment includes a multifunction heated GT sport steering wheel, Sport Chrono stopwatch, and black aluminum door sills with an embossed Macan T logo.
Macan T deliveries will begin in the spring and pricing for the full 2023 lineup will be revealed at that time.
