We show you how to change the car battery on a Volkswagen Tiguan
Power Up!
Volkswagen recommends replacing the battery in your Tiguan every 4 years. Some batteries may last longer, but almost all batteries begin to chemically break down after 3-4 years. We are going to show you how to replace the battery in your Tiguan in a few easy steps with simple tools.
This is an easy enough task to tackle right at home but if you need some assistance we can help!
You will need:
- New Battery of correct amperage and size.
- Socket wrench, long extension, 10mm and 12mm sockets
Let’s get started!
Make sure the vehicle is off completely before starting the job.
1. Open the bonnet
2. Locate the battery
3. Use the 10mm socket to remove the negative terminal. Be careful to not let the terminal spark upon removal. Tuck the cable away from any metal as there may be some residual charge left in the system.
4. Use the 10mm socket to remove the positive terminal. Just like the negative terminal , tuck the away cable from any metal.
5. Use the 12mm to remove the retainer plate.
6. Exchange the battery
7. Assemble in reverse order
Top Tips
- You may potentially have to reset the car’s computer after changing the battery.
- If there’s corrosion on the battery terminals, it helps to sand them down with medium grit sandpaper so there’s proper contact between the terminal & battery node.
- You can spray some battery terminal protector spray to prevent corrosion on the battery terminals.
