This burgundy soft top Aston Martin V8 Volante is for sale on Aston Martin Works’ Auto Trader page, asking price: £445,000. Not only is it a majestic piece of automotive history that you can buy with confidence direct from the manufacturer, it was also once owned by David Beckham.
According to its listing, the 1988 car has done just 38,000 miles, comes in X-Pack specification, has “highly desirable Ronal wheels” and has been “meticulously maintained by former custodians [including a] significant sportsman.”
Prices for 1980s era V8 Volante models vary significantly, but it’s possible to buy a good one for half this price, meaning the Beckham factor has likely pushed the price up somewhat. Having said that, it is an extremely well cared for and low mileage example, and one that’s likely to keep appreciating in value. Only 78 Volantes of this type were hand made by Aston Martin, according to an Auto Trader press release.
This 1988 model was one of the last before the car was replaced by the Virage in 1989. It’s powered by a 5.2-litre V8 with 432bhp and a five-speed manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. 0-62mph comes in 5.2 seconds and its top speed is 168mph. The cream leather interior and burr walnut trim is pure 1980s British excess.
At one time it wore Beckham’s personal number plate, DB1001, and was owned by him for 15 years before he sold it in 2018. Before that he’d even had it shipped to Spain so he could drive it during his period with Real Madrid.
