On June 12, four showrooms and service centers of BYD in Hong Kong fell victim to vandalism. The locations in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories suffered damages, such as splashes of red paint and damaged gates, within three hours. The police have categorized these acts as criminal damage and are investigating the incidents. No motive for the crimes has been established, and no arrests have been made thus far.
JC Motor, the general agent of BYD in Hong Kong, stated that the police had informed them of the violent and aggressive damages inflicted upon BYD’s showrooms in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories. The police investigation is ongoing, and the Yuen Long store has been temporarily closed for renovation. However, the Tin Shui Wai 4S store operates normally for new car delivery and after-sales service.
According to a report from Hong Kong’s “Sing Tao Toutiao,” at approximately 3:57 a.m., police officers discovered red paint splattered on the window glass of BYD’s showroom at the Zhongjing Financial Center in Tsim Sha Tsui. The paint was also found on the ground, covering an area of 8 meters by 3 meters. A 2-liter red paint can be found near the scene, and the case has been handed over to the Tsim Sha Tsui Criminal Investigation Team for further investigation.
The second incident occurred at 4:05 a.m. at the BYD showroom on the ground floor of the Majestic Industrial Building in Yuen Long, where a private car drove through the gate, causing dents and deformations. Interviews have not been conducted regarding the incidents, and the Yuen Long Police District’s Criminal Investigation Team has taken temporary charge of the case, intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrator.

The BYD showroom in Wanchai and the service center in Tin Shui Wai also experienced red paint splashes. A paint can found at the crime scene in Wanchai matches the brand of oil that can be seized by the police in Tsim Sha Tsui. The authorities have initiated investigations into both cases.
Mr. Shi, the general manager of sales at JCM Lianda Auto, the agent of BYD in Hong Kong, visited the Yuen Long showroom in the morning to assess the damage caused to the gate. He expressed satisfaction with BYD’s sales performance but voiced concern over the consecutive attacks on four BYD showrooms and service centers within three hours. Mr. Shi believes this is not a typical act of revenge and suspects that the perpetrators may have targeted the entire BYD brand. He emphasized the need to take this incident seriously and bring the culprits to justice.
Slammed door
Cui Qingquan, the operations director of Lianda Motors, confirmed that the affected showrooms and service centers were equipped with CCTV cameras. The case has been handed over to the police for investigation. Business operations are expected to resume on Monday or Tuesday, except for the Yuen Long showroom, which will remain closed for a few days due to the gate damage.
