Formula E finalises the sport’s biggest calendar ever

Ahead of the season 10 opener next January in Mexico City, Formula E have successfully finalised the 2023/24 calendar, which is set to be the biggest in the championship’s history.

Starting in Mexico City on January 13 and concluding in London on 21 July, Formula E’s historic 10th campaign will consist of 17 races, the most to ever feature on the sport’s calendar.

The calendar has been increased to 17 as a double-header will take place in Portland, which featured on the calendar for the first time last season and put on an astonishing race that consisted of a record-breaking 403 overtakes.

Portland will host the 14th and 15th round of the season on the last weekend in June. 11 host cities feature on the calendar, whilst the final four cities – Berlin, Shanghai, Portland and London – will host double-headers.

As well as confirming that Portland will host a double-header, Formula E has also announced that Misano will host an Italian double-header, following the departure of Rome. This news was reported earlier in the week, with the Circuit Marco Simoncelli being nothing more but a stopgap for the all-electric series.

Nevertheless, Stefano Bonaccini, President of the Emilia-Romagna region, is delighted that Formula E will become the latest World Championship to compete at Misano, which is best-known for hosting MotoGP and World Superbikes.

“The choice of Misano to be the Italian stage of Formula E is another recognition of the extraordinary teamwork that has made Emilia-Romagna the Italian region with the highest number of sporting events in the country,” said Bonaccini.

“Particularly in motorsport, this event adds to the return of Formula 1 to Imola, and MotoGP and Superbike which have all taken place on the circuit.

“Congratulations to the organisers for this new milestone, it sends a very important message beyond its sporting value: Formula E is the first and only sport to be certified net zero carbon since inception and reminds us how the fight against climate change is the priority in this historical moment.”

With the inclusion of a double-header in Shanghai and Portland for season 10, the 2023/24 calendar will consist of 41 per cent purpose-built circuits. The calendar certainly consists of a variety of street and traditional tracks, all of which will play their part in Formula E history.

Formula E CEO, Jeff Dodds, has labelled the calendar as the “ultimate challenge” and has expressed how scheduling a double-header in Portland “signifies our ongoing commitment to the US market”.

“Formula E delivers street racing better than anyone, and our final Season 10 calendar presents the ultimate challenge for teams and drivers in the second year of the GEN3 race car with the perfect blend of iconic street circuits and established tracks,” said Dodds.

“Misano will be a great new experience for everyone, while the additional race in Portland signifies our ongoing commitment to the US market alongside the potential for growth in the region.”
