When you think of the world’s most famous spy you naturally conjure images of daring escapes, beautiful locations and a freshly pressed tuxedo. While James Bond keeps good female company in each movie, he is rarely without a four-wheeled companion. The most famed, without question, is the Aston Martin DB5 – a vehicle as ladened with gadgets as it was beautiful. Lucky boys and girls who placed an order for Aston Martin Works DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars will soon be receiving their new-old toy.
The first Aston Martin DB5 to be created in over 55 years has been completed by Aston Martin Works, kicking-off production for these special continuation cars. Each vehicle has been produced with incurable attention to detail to ensure true DB5 authenticity. However, these cars also feature functional gadgets as seen in the cult-classic 007 film Goldfinger.
The real-life Q behind these cars is Chris Corbould OBE – he has won Oscars for his work in special effects. These totally functional gadgets will no doubt impress onlookers and transport owners back in time to when Sean Connery first ejected that henchman. This DB5’s extras include a rear smoke screen, revolving number plates, mock machine guns behind the headlights, retractable bulletproof shield, tyre slashers, gadget switchgear under the armrest and much more.
Marek Reichman, Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin Lagonda, said: “It is a genuine privilege, and significant responsibility, to have been involved in the shaping of this new DB5 and to be helping to lead the creation of new versions of this automotive icon. I’m absolutely certain that the 25 lucky owners who are beginning to take delivery of these cars will be thrilled with them.”
Each car is powered by a handcrafted 4.0-litre naturally aspirated inline six-cylinder engine. A 5-speed ZF manual transmission and limited-slip differential helps get 290bhp to the Tarmac.
While these Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars aren’t road-legal, they are the ultimate toy for the lucky 25 people who spent the required £2.75 million.
