Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has just unveiled the 2022 Tiguan Allspace facelift here on our shores over the weekend. As before, the 5+2 SUV will be offered in two variants, although the outgoing Highline has now been replaced by the 1.4TSI Elegance, while the 2.0-litre R-Line 4Motion remains.
Both variants will be locally-assembled here in VPCM’s assembly plant in Pekan, Pahang, and is priced from RM174,746 for the 1.4TSI Elegance.
EXTERIOR
First unveiled globally back in May last year, the 2022 Tiguan Allspace facelift introduces a few nip and tuck to its appearance, particularly on the front fascia, to bring it closer to its other siblings in the Volkswagen model line-up.
The fully LED headlights get a new slimmer and design with a twin ‘U’-shaped light signature, somewhat reminiscent of the ones on the all-new Volkswagen Golf. The grille has also been enlarged, now with a light-bar running across its entire width to join the two headlights together.
Around the rear, the taillights also get a new light signature similar to that of the Passat, while the plastic claddings around the wheel arches have also been slimmed down.
Both variants also get new bumper styling with a wide bone-shaped design up front, but the R-Line kit on the range-topping variant looks significantly sportier with wider air intakes and additional black and chrome accents, plus faux exhaust exits round the back.
As for wheel sizes, the 1.4 TSI Elegance comes equipped with a set of silver 18-inch ‘Frankfurt’ alloys, while the R-Line 4Motion variant gets a larger 19-inch set of grey ‘Valencia’ rollers.

The powertrain underneath the hood for both variants remain unchanged from before.

New to the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 1.4 TSI Elegance is a drive mode selector, with four modes – Eco, Normal, Sport, Individual – for the driver to personalise based on their preferences.
INTERIOR
The facelift exercise continues to the Tiguan Allspace’s interior, although a lot milder in comparison. Both variants are fairly similarly equipped, with standard equipment including:

The R-Line 4Motion variant differentiates itself with the addition of a 10-speaker 480W Harman Kardon sound system, alongside the usual R-line trims including a sportier flat-bottom steering wheel.
SAFETY
As with the rest of VPCM’s model range here in Malaysia, the Tiguan Allspace does not come with autonomous emergency braking. However, both variants are equipped with lane keeping assist as standard, alongside the usual ABS and ESC, plus six airbags.
PRICING
The new 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace facelift in Malaysia starts at RM174,746 for the 1.4TSI Elegance variant, while the range-topping 2.0TSI R-Line 4Motion variant is priced at RM219,444, representing a price increase of roughly RM10,000 and RM11,000 respectively. As they’re both locally-assembled here in Malaysia, they are also currently exempted from SST, until the 30th of June 2022.
Also included in the price is a five-year unlimited-mileage warranty, alongside three years of free scheduled service.
