- Everything you need to know about the Honda Jazz
The Jazz was a staple within the Honda product range, however, was retired after the Japanese automaker introduced the highly anticipated Fit model. There are, however, plenty of Jazz models still on South African roads as well as adorning the floors of used car dealerships. So if you are considering the practical hatchback, here is everything we think you should know about the model.
What is the Honda Jazz like to drive?
Is the Honda Jazz a good car?
The Jazz model has over the years proved its reliability and practicality as a hatchback and can definitely be considered a good car.
Who is the Honda Jazz a good car for?
The Honda Jazz is a good car for individuals looking for a reliable hatchback that is affordable to purchase and maintain as well as efficient for the daily commute.
Is the Honda Jazz a good first car?
Considering the practicality, efficiency and affordability, the Honda Jazz is not only a good first car but recommended for first-time car buyers.
Is the Honda Jazz a good family car?
The Honda Jazz will comfortably accommodate five occupants, and the 359-litre boot is quite generous but perhaps might be just too small for large amounts of luggage packed for longer trips. However, for the daily commute or the occasional trip, the Jazz should prove ample even for families.

While the Honda Jazz never had a hybrid derivative locally, the new Honda Fit that replaced the Jazz does have a hybrid variant.

What’s it like to drive?
Reviewer’s opinion
The Jazz Sport has a brilliant suspension that soaks up the bumps and does have an element of handling sprinkled in. It is very comfortable around town but tackling speed bumps reveals the rear end to be slightly harder sprung as it jolts down quite hard. I found the drive to be much better when leaving it in the D setting on the CVT. Putting it in S changes the CVT programming making it hold a “gear” for way too long leading to a very noisy driving experience.

What is the Honda Jazz like inside?
The cabin is well-trimmed with nice cloth seats contrasted with red stitching. Some leather, piano black and chrome surfaces and trim inserts bolster the overall premium feel of the interior. Customers can also expect equipment such as automatic climate control, keyless entry with push button start and the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Style
The exterior of the last Honda Jazz derivative to be introduced, the Sport, will appeal to those looking for that boy-racer-type styling. Customers will find high gloss black accents around the vehicle that compliment the sporty body kit. The contrasting red accents found around the vehicle hark back to the Type R models. Also bolstering the performance-inspired design is the rather large spoiler, an item that admittedly contributes more to the styling than it does to the model’s aerodynamics. Each corner features 16-inch black mag wheels while upfront comes LED headlights with integrated daylight running lights, and a chrome and high gloss grille.
