Porsche Malaysia, through its local representative Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), has launched the 7th generation 911 GT3 at the Sepang International Circuit. The launch coincides with the Porsche World Roadshow 2021 at the Sepang circuit on 3, 6 – 9 December, for invited guests.

The Porsche 911 GT3 is the latest in a long line of pure driving machines. The first GT3 was introduced in 1999, a derivative of the 996-generation 911 as a homologation model for the FIA GT3 cup. More than 2 decades later, the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 transfers pure racing technology into a production model more systematically than before. The result is a brilliant high-performance driving machine that is exciting, precise and refined, making it perfect for the circuit and balanced for everyday driving.

The latest 911 GT3 features a naturally-aspirated 4.0L 6-cylinder boxer engine which produces 510 PS and 470 Nm of torque. It willingly revs up to 9,000 rpm and is based on the 911 GT3 R which is a tried and tested endurance racing machine. Renowned for its acoustics, the 4.0L engine features individual throttle bodies for each of the 6 cylinders and is utilised practically unchanged in the new 911 GT3 Cup.

The car weighs only 1,435 kg (with the standard 7-speed PDK) despite having a wider body, larger wheels, as well as additional technical and safety features. If you so wish, you can spec your 911 GT3 with a 6-speed manual GT sports gearbox (1,418 kg), or opt for the GT3 Touring Package at no additional cost. It is capable of a top speed of 320 km/h, making it considerably faster than the previous 911 GT3 RS.

In final testing, this GT3 lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife by over 17 seconds quicker than its predecessor. Development driver Lars Kern took just 6:59.927 minutes for a full 20.8-kilometre lap. In comparison, the previous 911 GT3 did the shorter 20.6-kilometre track that was previously the benchmark, in 6:55.2 minutes.

Despite its race-car performance, the 911 GT3 is completely road-legal. It inherits elements straight from racing – for the first time, the car features a double-wishbone front suspension layout taken from the Le Mans-winning 911 RSR race car, with specific geometry and calibration changing the car’s turn-in behaviour and allowing for sure-footed agility on the racetrack. We were given the opportunity to get our hands dirty with the 911 GT3 around Sepang and we can confirm that it performs as claimed.

The car is built with sophisticated aerodynamics taken from racing. For example, the swan-neck rear wing mounting and striking diffuser are from the 911 RSR. This allows for approximately 50% more downforce than before without affecting the drag coefficient. The manually-adjustable rear wing and diffuser elements can also be set to increase aerodynamic downforce by up to 150% to assist drivers in managing higher cornering speeds. As a result, the 911 GT3 feels like a more manageable and refined beast on the track.

Further, the low overall weight is achieved through extensive use of lightweight materials. The front bonnet and rear wing are made from the carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), the windows are made from lightweight glass, and the starter battery is a small LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) unit. In addition, forged lightweight wheels and a sports exhaust system helps to further reduce the weight by more than 10 kg.

The racing heritage of the 911 GT3 is well represented in the cabin. The cockpit is designed in line with the current 992 generation, but the GT3-specific instrument cluster features a central rev counter, which goes up to 10,000 rpm, flanked by two high-resolution 7″ displays featuring the new track screen.

This feature allows the driver to simplify the digital displays to prioritise vital track information such as tyre pressure, oil pressure, oil temperature and fuel tank level at the touch of a button. It also includes a visual shift assistant with coloured bars to the left and right of the rev counter and a shift light to facilitate more accurately-timed gear changes.

Like all 911 models from the 992 generation, the infotainment in the 911 GT3 is centred on a high-resolution 10.9″ touchscreen display featuring the latest Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, with online navigation and Porsche Connect Plus. The system also supports the Porsche Track Precision App, which helps you maximise your track sessions and improve lap times by providing detailed driving data, including live displays and video analyses.

“Motorsport has always been a core tenet of the Porsche brand identity, and the 911 GT3 has long exemplified this passion for racing by transferring every ounce of expertise gained on the track onto the road. With the all-new 911 GT3 we are launching today, we are giving our customers the purest driving thrills possible behind the wheel of a Porsche 911,” said Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of SDAP.

“While the 911 GT3 makes for an ideal Sepang companion for the active community of track-going Porsche owners here in Malaysia, those who prefer to experience the dynamic qualities of the GT3 in a more understated fashion across longer journeys can go for the Touring Package which transforms the GT3 into a more road-oriented grand tourer (GT),” he added.

911 GT3 with Touring Package

The 911 GT3 with Touring Package offers a more discreet and subtle appearance, but retains the same high performance expected from a GT car. It features a 6-speed manual GT sports gearbox as standard and offers a distinguished alternative to the purist 911 GT3, perfectly suited to sports car connoisseurs with a passion for understatement and classic driving pleasure.

The most conspicuous difference with the Touring Package is the omission of the fixed rear wing of the 911 GT3. In its place is an automatically extending rear spoiler that offers the necessary downforce at high speeds while maintaining a more understated aesthetic. Silver-coloured trim strips made of high-gloss anodised aluminium on the side windows are another distinguishing feature, while the front end is painted completely in the exterior colour.

Further, the rear lid grille features a unique ‘GT3 Touring” logo, which sits above the signature Porsche lettering, and also finished in silver.

Almost all optional equipment available for the 911 GT3 can be specified in combination with the Touring Package. This includes all exterior and wheel colours, LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS), Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), lift system on the front axle, seat variations, assist systems, audio systems and the Sport Chrono package.

Enhanced Customisation And Exclusive Chronographs

Following heightened demand for customised equipment among Porsche GT models, the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur range has been updated to include GT3-specific options. This includes a lightweight roof made of exposed carbon fibre, exterior mirror tops made of carbon, darkened LED matrix headlight bases and matching Exclusive design rear lights with an arc of light without the red components. Optional Guards Red or Shark Blue painted wheel rims allow you to enhance the visual impact of the black alloy wheels.

Inside, equipment details such as the dials for the rev counter and Sport Chrono stopwatch, seatbelts and trim can also be customised to almost any colour of choice.

For even more exclusivity, Porsche offers its special ‘Paint to Sample’ programme for ultimate exterior personalisation, with 105 classic shades from Porsche’s past catalogue, as well as bespoke possibilities according to a customer’s choice, subject to availability.

The Porsche 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 with Touring Package is now open for pre-order from any Porsche Centre in Malaysia. Prices start from RM1,766,244 (with SST exemption).
