The station entered permanent operation following initial infrastructure rollouts and uses the company’s second-generation flash-charging hardware, capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW from its core architecture. Flash charging moves beyond China The German site follows the initial European demonstration of BYD’s latest charging architecture, which was showcased in Paris in April alongside the domestic launch of the Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging 2.0. The system combines high-power charging equipment with battery cells engineered for extremely high charge acceptance rates. On compatible vehicles, BYD claims charging from 10% to 70% state of charge in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. The company also says that charging times at temperatures as low as -30°C increase by only about 3 minutes compared with normal conditions. At a maximum architectural capacity of 1,500 kW, the system’s peak potential is significantly higher than Tesla’s V3 Supercharger and roughly 4 times that of a V4 unit. Europe becomes the next infrastructure battleground The German launch forms part of a broader overseas charging strategy. BYD plans to build 6,000 flash-charging stations outside China by the end of 2026, with Europe accounting for half of the total. The initiative follows rapid domestic deployment. Industry reports indicate BYD had built more than 6,100 flash-charging stations across China by late May, with coverage extending to over 300 cities. The company recently expanded the network into high-altitude regions, including a flash-charging site near Mount Everest in Tibet. A June cooperation agreement with Sinopec is expected to accelerate infrastructure expansion through China’s largest fuel-station network. Denza expansion supports premium push The charging rollout coincides with BYD’s European expansion through premium brand Denza. Denza opened its first dedicated German showroom in Hamburg in June and plans approximately 40 German stores by the end of 2026. The brand also intends to launch eight models across Europe by the end of 2027. The strategy follows growing momentum for flash-charging-equipped products. We previously reported that Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging 2.0 helped drive consumer demand in China, while Denza surpassed 500,000 cumulative deliveries in May as the N9 Flash Charging version entered the market. Domestic sales data show Denza delivered 10,638 vehicles in April 2026, up 57.3% from March, according to China EV DataTracker. Sales growth provides foundation The infrastructure push comes as BYD continues to expand globally. The automaker sold 383,453 new-energy vehicles in May 2026, bringing cumulative NEV sales above 16.5 million units. Overseas passenger vehicle and pickup sales reached a record 160,177 units during the month, up 80.7% year-on-year. In Europe, BYD reported sales exceeding 120,000 vehicles during the first four months of 2026, highlighting the scale of its transition from an importer of vehicles to an operator of charging, sales, and service infrastructure across the region.
