Credit: Autohome Understand China EV’s Market Real-time notifications when critical EV data is released All important data in one place 2,000,000+ data points Become a member China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has publicly disclosed production conformity findings involving sample vehicles of the Geely EX2 and BYD Qin L DM-i in its 2025 annual new energy vehicle production conformity inspection, reports Autohome. The notice covered seven vehicle models across four non-compliance categories. The findings concern sampled vehicles and do not constitute fleet-wide recalls. Geely EX2 fails wheelbase tolerance The Geely case involves Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and model code JL7001BEV71, corresponding to the Geely EX2, which recently opened European orders ahead of scheduled dealer arrivals in September. It is sold domestically as the Geely Xingyuan. According to MIIT, the sampled vehicle’s wheelbase differed from its value in the official vehicle catalogue by more than the permitted 1% error margin. The public disclosure did not give the measured wheelbase or exact millimetre deviation. Wheelbase is a registered vehicle dimension, making the finding a production-conformity issue rather than a reported performance or safety defect. BYD Qin L DM-i exceeds declared fuel consumption The second passenger-car case involves BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. and model code BYD7153WT6HEV, corresponding to the BYD Qin L DM-i. The DM 5.0-equipped plug-in hybrid recently received an updated model with up to 210 km of pure-electric range. MIIT said the sampled plug-in hybrid’s fuel consumption in Charge-Sustaining (CS) mode exceeded the company’s declared value in the regulatory vehicle catalogue. The notice did not disclose the tested consumption figure or the extent of the difference. BYD Qin L DM-i, cited for excess CS-mode fuel consumption. CS mode refers to an operating condition in which the high-voltage battery is maintained within its charge-sustaining range while the combustion engine provides the primary energy input. The finding concerns the vehicle’s declared fuel-consumption performance under that test condition. Regulator response MIIT said it had taken measures based on the severity of the production conformity findings. These can include orders for rectification, suspension or revocation of relevant product catalogue entries, and suspension of electronic transmission of conformity-certificate information. The public notice does not specify which individual measure was applied to Geely or BYD. The disclosure follows the launch of a separate one-year nationwide vehicle quality and production conformity campaign on August 27 by MIIT, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the State Administration for Market Regulation. The campaign includes strengthened production-conformity supervision, on-site inspections and increased sampling and testing of vehicles and key components. MIIT also urged automakers to strengthen production-conformity controls and supply-chain management and to “resolutely resist irrational competition.” The notice does not state that either manufacturer has stopped production of the affected model. Recent sales trends The two models also remain significant sellers in China, although both have seen weaker sales compared with a year earlier. Geely Xingyuan sales fell to 32,306 units in July 2026, down 3.2% from June and 27.0% year over year, after reaching 48,080 units in September 2025.
