BYD sales started out slow this year, but they’re picking up steam … or electricity. The company had 456,713 passenger vehicle deliveries in September. That’s 5.4% more than in August 2026 and 16.2% more than in September 2025. The better news is that the company’s fully electric vehicle (BEV) sales were up a lot more than that. BEV sales were up 6.6% month over month and 33.2% year over year. They rose from 205,050 in September 2025 to 273,143 in September 2026. Now, if BEV sales are up more than passenger vehicle sales overall, then that means PHEV sales did much worse (because BYD only sells BEVs and PHEVs). The company’s PHEV sales rose 3.6% month over month, but they actually decreased 2.4% year over year. They dropped from 188,010 in September 2025 to 183,570 in September 2026. By the way, for those of you who didn’t do some serious math in your heads really quickly, the company’s overall plugin passenger vehicle sales rose from 393,060 in September 2025 to 456,713 in September 2026. That’s more than 63,000 additional sales. Looking at the bigger picture, the good news is the company is creeping closer to growth across the whole year, and BEVs have already gotten there. Passenger vehicle sales are down just 4.4%, from 3,218,862 across the first three quarters of 2025 to 3,078,544 across the first three quarters of 2026. Full electrics are up 1.5%, from 1,605,903 in 2025 to 1,629,957 in 2026. (Yes, that does mean PHEV sales are down significantly — by 10.2%, from 1,612,959 in 2025 to 1,448,587 in 2026.)
